The 5 k rule is a load of bollox and I'll prove why. I walk my dog just outside the 5k in a quiet area. So strictly speaking I'm breaking the rules, am a nasty inconsiderate person. Now here's the fun part. Let's say I'm stopped by the Gardai and they tell me "Westie, your breaking the rules, return home at once". So a deeply saddened West goes home, put on his dog leash and walks all over cork City centre. You see Westsidex lives within 5km of cork City center. Now, my fellow lunatics, my fellow barney's, beauty's, gonzos, eagles, and whoever else. I'm no genius, no god (I just come accross as them). Where do you think I'm going to meet more ppl? Cork City center or a fuckin field.
5k my bollox.

Ps. I might get a stroke over it. Oh wait I might get one of them from a fuckin vaccine
I'm a drunk person trying to act sober.

Another covid thread?
The 5k rule, like any other "rule", is designed to meet a goal. We don't see speeding eradicated by putting up speed limits, and not every speeder is stopped every time. Same thing with the 5km rule. It's designed to guide people who are compliant, not to punish 100% of people who are non compliant.
In any event, the 5km can be ignored for essential purposes, which many in rural areas have to ignore daily for almost every reason.
Easy to tear strips off the government or laugh at the rule, but it is easier to get compliance to a simple rule that people can understand than to try to be more nuanced and cause endless confusion. The multiple responses on here show that many intelligent people have several interpretations of both the 5km rule, as well as many other things. Without judging, just saying that even a simple rule is being interpreted in many ways by different people. So would trying to add more "clarity" to it help in any way or just make it worse?
As for judging others for breaking the rules, honestly there's no point. The only thing I will say is that at this stage it'd be an awful shame to either get the virus or worse pass it on when the end is in sight.
