It said prostitution is legal but why “ it has been an offence to buy sex”
So is it now offence to buy sex ?
I’m confused , thank you all for the explanation

As I understand it the law states it is legal for a person(man or woman) to work alone as a sex worker. However as a person paying for sex that is not legal. But who is to say sex takes place during the time you spend with an escort?.
Escorts are not a prostitutes! You are not buying sex! It's not a shop! Everything you are paying for time you spending with them. It's like going to GP. You pay for visit not for operation they're sending you! Same here, and whatever happens behind closed doors it is only matter between you and escort. So please do not mix escort and prostitutes. It could be that you want only just a little chat or just run away for quick cup of coffee...
Take me to the moon babe...

The “time and companionship” dance is useful for the site as a sort of PR slogan. But referencing it is of zero use to this guy looking for advice if he’s a genuine prospective client.
At the moment it is not against the law to sell sexual services but it is against the law to purchase sexual services. Which sounds ridiculous, but there it is. The law criminalizes the client as it stands.
So, if you’re unfortunate enough to be nabbed after seeing an escort, deny deny deny.
You never purchased sexual services. Here is your identification and address, and any other questions will be answered by your lawyer.
Pick escorts with a good number of good reviews your first couple of times.
Have fun, be discreet, enjoy yourself.

Call it what you like but you are paying for sex ... that is illegal... you can/will be prosecuted if caught ... give whatever excuse you like to the Gardai, but they are smarter than you ... if they want to 'do you' they will 'do you' ... deny, deny, deny, will get you nowhere ... you're basically F**ked ...

Cool, you go ahead and admit to everything and make their job easy for them so.

“Around 40 people nationally were caught in the sweep over the last weekend of April for allegedly paying for sex. The crackdown, which took place as part of Operation Quest, is aimed…
… Since then just one person has been convicted of paying for sex; a 65-year-old..
.. It is believed there are a handful of other prosecutions before the courts…."
That 65 year old was interviewed by the Sunday World I think it was. He said the guards assured him they were only concerned for the escorts welfare, told him they were concerned she had been trafficked and coerced into prostitution. Not interested in prosecuting him. So thinking he was being helpful he admitted to paying for sex with her, then they used that confession to convict him.

Not at all Sir, do not be intimidated by the Guards, saying nothing incriminating and there's nothing they can do.
short of being caught 'inflagrante delicto' basically balls deep in someone, there's no evidence of a crime being committed and even then the prosecution would have to prove cash was exchanged for the act . deny deny deny is the best defense.
