Is anyone surprised that the people who raise animals for a sport in which they are whipped
so the owners can win money are cruel to them and see them as disposable?
No

Not all trainers are cruel.
Some are decent and know that if u want to get the best from a horse it must be fit, healthy and feeling good.
Others just push them beyond their capacity and the result is above. A horse drops dead in a heavy sand gallop and the trainer is probably calling the next owner to say he has a vacancy.
When money is involved , it can bring out the worst in people....greedy people.

What an absolute tyrant.
Hopefully he loses his license. To think Cheltenham is in 2 weeks too!!
That horse looks like a young horse possibly a 3 year old, clearly hadn't filled its frame yet.
Terrible for the horse racing industry

A horse racing lover myself (cant wait for Chetenham!!)
Disappointed by this image, it reflects badly on our great sport of which Irish are world leaders in terms of top thoroughbred horses, top jockeys, outstanding breeding industry and so on,
not defending his actions but guys like Elliot are brought up on hard farming backgrounds, where they develop a toughness and a rough edge and where losing livestock is part and parcel of the business.
I would as a result of this advocate for increased scrutiny of Horse Racing trainers though, increased inspections and ensuring that all horses are treated properly, fed properly and looked after in a kind and caring way,
I have no doubt this incident is not reflective of the racing industry in general, most of us racing people have a great love and affection for our magnificent equine friends, and trainers, stable staff and owners absolutely cherish and love their beautiful animals.
A dangerous weakness of mine- "an attraction for fast women and slow horses"
