Thread: Hotels - a bad idea during Covid?

I got there on time, parked, went in ... enquired about the parking at reception (and was told it was free for a certain amount of time & shown the machines to validate my ticket) ... but then the staff member asked for the reason for my visit to the hotel.

I came up with the excuse that I was dropping off a set of suitcase keys to a friend who was flying out tomorrow (I had an old pair of keys handy on my keyring that I didn't need), and shouldn't be long calling up to their room...

However, I was then told that it was strictly residents only in the rooms and that either they'd hang on to the keys there for my friend, or that my friend would have to come down to me.

Next came an awkward few mins where I rang the lady to explain, then reception rang her room and double checked with her, she came down to meet me in reception, we had a chat, the receptionist reiterated that I couldn't go upstairs, we did a pretend handover of the keys and I left.

Was kicking myself that I wasn't familiar enough with the hotel to a) know about their parking ticket machines and b) know where the stairs were so I could just confidently walk on through & up... but... just wondering... (after this experience... and not being able to "complete the transaction" today)... is this the norm in hotels at the moment?
visiting any escorts is a bad idea in current circumstances.

It's obvious you were trying not to make life difficult for the lady, but think you did get the approach wrong. I don't much like visiting hotels because of the awkwardness of those unlikely times that you are asked questions.

My one golden rule would be NEVER to say the room number. That would probably end her visit, and prevent her using the hotel again.

I always try to look like a hotel guest who knows their way and needs no help. I make sure I know where the lifts are in advance. If that is not easy, I would ask the escort. Sometimes I will order something to drink if there is a ground floor bar. Reception are less likely to notice someone coming to the lifts from the hotel interior.

If you are worried about looking nervous on the walk to the lifts, get out your phone and check texts just as a guest would do.

If it becomes clear that a staff member is suspicious of you (never happened to me) bail out and let the escort know.

I have visited in hotels literally about a hundred times and never had to bail out, but a wee bit of preparation makes it much easier.

I only visit hotels where you can access the bedroom floors without actually going throught the foyer or passing reception.... Thankfully there are a few 'brilliant' ones down my way.... but I would still avoid during Covid restrictions, especially level 5..... On a related matter I wonder what level of business the ladies are doing in hotels compared to the non Covid days... it must be well down, but still worth their while if they are still using them... any lady like to give a an idea of a PreCovid / With Covid comparison...

No, of course I wasn't trying to make life difficult for her. I had to think on my feet and come up with a reason for being there quickly - maybe it wasn't the right one to use, but it worked out okay. I've spoken to her since, and she's quite clear that I hadn't made life difficult for her.

In this case, it was only at her suggestion that I did say the room number as not saying so would probably have appeared suspicious, having given the excuse of dropping off a set of keys. It didn't end her visit or arouse suspicion that I was there to do anything else.

All good advice - and advice that I would usually follow (and give!)... I've "been around the block" and wasn't acting conspicuously or nervously... I don't believe the true reason for my being there entered the staff member's mind at all, but as I didn't know what the situation with the parking was (and neither did she), I discreetly enquired. As I said, I've chatted with the escort since and all was fine;- she even had a couple of more clients arrive and manage to make their way upstairs. I was just unlucky.

These are unusual times, so it's absolutely understandable for hotels to be more on their guard about non-residents wandering around unchecked.

I’d much rather hotels , compared to nosey neighbours at apartments, and cold damp smelling apartments, with single beds , it’s awful how some girls have to work from, and pay big rent for some of these disgusting apartments.

Not approaching the reception is easier said that done.
I Had to meet the lady close to the lifts as they were keycard entry. I was abit apprehensive about doing so, having never been asked to do this before. But everything went ok until I tried to exit the car park afterwards and only found out then that the ticket needed to be validated at reception. I even thought of doing as Mr Bean did and attempt to get out under the barrier when someone else was exiting. But there was nobody else going out and I had to go to reception to validate the ticket and in doing so had to pass by where the lady was sitting waiting for her next client.
As I approached the reception I could see that the only receptionist there was on the phone and I was dreading having to wait there until she finished the call, but a concierge appeared from behind her and outstretched his hand to me with a validated ticket before I even got to the desk. Phew !!

I'm sure he knew what I was there for.

    It’s almost impossible -

I had huge argument at airport hotel in midnight - hotel booked with 5 days notice .. no one bothered let me know - and it was only for few hours as I did arrived late in night and there was no way how to get to my final destination. In end booki g con get involved and after me turning to Hulk I was accommodated but it looked like I’ll have to spend the night at the airport.
