Thread: Government backed UCD study

    Default Government backed UCD study

    https://www.breakingnews.ie/ireland/...s-1038706.html

"The Government-backed study from UCD has found that the country's sex trade is mainly made up of young and vulnerable migrant women with poor English, who have only recently travelled to the State.

The trade is causing “untold harm and misery” to those caught up in it, according to the study carried out by the Sexual Exploitation Research Programme at the university."

The language used throughout this article is highly critical and pejorative. Nothing new there. Interesting that its a government sponsored study, as it may be used to inform govt thinking on the subject.

If the government is paying for it, it will reflect government thinking.

The upcoming review is now a foregone conclusion regardless of any of the overwhelming evidence that the sex worker hating law has been a disaster which was even flagged before it's introduction!
I would predict more severe penalties for punters as a likely change!

The report was done by (SERP), Independent feminist research on all forms of commercial sexual exploitation. The Sexual Exploitation Research Programme (SERP) at University College Dublin. And funded by the Department of Justice, Many of them at SERP would be radical feminists, Very pro-Swedish model, etc, a foregone conclusion

Disgraceful that such a Programme would get funding at a university thought of as reputable. If you read the mission statement of the group, they do not even pretend to be doing unbiased research, but make it clear that they are feminist campaigners.

I assume all they did was open EI, got an approximation of the numbers of ads, went to the reviews section to see if there were any current reviews, and then clicked a few profiles to make assumptions both about nationality and about the escorts' coalescence as to their profession. If your opening position is that sex work is so distasteful that anyone involved in sex work must be being coerced into the industry, it's not hard to reframe any stats and figures into supporting your narrative.
It is a shame, as this could really have been an opportunity for an open minded, informed study

We dont see things as they are, we see them as we are.

If you have inherent biases, you can swing anything in your favour. Which is what they have done in this study. "We dont like escorting so lets publish the "facts" to suit us."

As Einstein said, when the facts dont fit the theory, change the facts.

Colleges are a cesspit these days as well. So inherently biased to suit their own agendas. Wasnt there a lecturer in ireland who said the whole pandemic was a hoax.

Once you have inherent biases, you are going to frame the "facts" to suit your bias.

and are you surprised, it was always going to happen,
the sex worker does not matter sadly, no one want to listen. there's some great ladies out there trying to make a change for the better and no more can they do

Trafficking out of control, Ireland's the worst, England has got bad too but its bad all over Europe,

Really feel for the Independent lady who works hard and makes the changes, punters need to wise up a lot more too
