It's linked to your mobile number, that's it.

No you do not need an email address but you do need a device that has access to the Internet via Broadband or WiFi connection.

ok seems i got both a number and google email both attached, i believe i was asked for google email when previously trying to get it setup but will check again

ok i'm using a motorola moto s7
So when chatting to a friend on WHATSAPP and they send you a picture too, when I go to images and see whatsapp images there, I can see the pictures in that folder so does it automatically save them for me

Pictures on WhatsApp are saved onto your phone unless you delete them on WhatsApp.
You should turn on the WhatsApp backup option, in case you lose your phone or get a new phone.

ok so if I deleted the conversation or other person deleted the picture their end it would disappear from that folder?
how do i save that picture?

ok got that saved, it saved it to my drive so its safe here then if anything in whatsapp conversation is deleted
