We all know we cannot have a second lockdown , both fanancially and mentally so it,s up to us all to do our part.
Lets all wear a mask when shopping and in enclosed places with loads of people , keep our distances and just think
It,s alls about slowing down the spread of the virus before we get a vaccine and keeping our hospitals clear so they are not over run .
But sadly it,s a trait of the Irish , they hate been told what to do , self entitlement
This isn’t a second wave, it’s local spiking in a first wave, you’re always going to have blips in the numbers, ripples in the wave if you like, we are never going to have another lock down like last time, that was a panic reaction, at worst there will be localised restrictions, why would you have a lockdown in Sligo because there’s a spike in Kildare? makes zero sense on any level. The health service won’t be overrun by people under 50 contracting the virus, this will circulate in society, it’s unavoidable and a vaccine isn’t a silver bullet either, we’ve had a flu vaccine for 80 years and the flu is still active, this country seems determined to talk itself into a second wave, always negative with us, mask up, distance and follow the rules until we are out the other side

Ye had me worried there for a minute. Looked up the news and it seems the spike is identified as being in Naas in a very specific setting(s). Take that out of it and there is no great change in recent daily cases. But you are right, do the simple things and we control it.
I even ventured into a Dublin pub early in the week. Curiosity as to the future of an old haunt was my motivation. Had no intention of having a drink. The premises was all set up for social distancing and after silly elbows, had a friendly chat with the owner while taking in the changes. Then I decided to take the plunge and ordered the nine euro pizza with my pint. Napoli need have no worries in terms of the new food challenge from Dublin.
But, watching the barman fill the pint, expertly and with loving attention to detail, leaving it settle for the requisite time, topping it off and leaving it on my table as the brown bubbly section slowly swirled in ever reducing circles and merged with the firm forming creamy head as it took its final shape just above the rim of the glass, was a vision that seemed to say that all was right with the world again. Then came the first good slug and confirmation that, indeed, everything was still alright with the world.

There are some things - and that even includes places and people who call them tings - in life, that for pure satisfaction, just simply can’t be beaten. Outside of the pleasures to be found in this parish, rediscovering another of them after almost half a year of involuntary abstinence, was something I hadn’t bargained for. And this is from one who swore he had no need or desire for a return to the pub again, ever.

So it can be done and can be done right too, as in this well run traditional premises.

nice post, you have me thirsty now, ya, life can proceed if we follow the rules, all this negativity about second waves is beginning to grate with me, this is going to be a factor of life from now, it's all about how we deal with it long term, a vaccine will help but don't hold your breath for one being in general use anytime soon. its a mind-set now, be careful but go about your life

Near medical quality disposable masks were selling at €35 to €50 a box nationwide a few weeks ago. Now down to €25 a box. Last year you could get 5 boxes for less than €50. Somebody is making money there.
My wife caught me wearing ladies underwear and threatened to leave me.
So I packed up all her clothes
    And left.

I use AliExpress and bought 50 black masks for around 15€
I also got 2 masks in which you can wash and replace filters, which looks quite cool, they were around 5€ each.

I only wear them when going to shops and inside any other public places.
If the law states that we need to wear them on the streets to, then I will, but for now, only inside public places.

Take a good look at those black masks, or rather a look through them. If you can see through them, they're next to useless.
Local chemist is bringing them in and reselling @ €7 each. Loads of people wearing them as they do not restrict breathing, but they offer very little protection.
Package does have a ce mark but ce are just 2 random letters in china.

There can't be another lockdown as people won't accept it, they won't listen and as for financially its ruined anyway, The restrictions in Ireland should not been lifted as quick until it was gone, it been better to ease it more gently and be sure, like the winter months are to come yet and if there had been a few good hot months then it been worse, its clear that people had no regards for others, they started with masks for first few days and like most things then dumped them as seeing others not wearing them, no enforcement either not that it could be done.
England not good either and will get worse but what a cock-up they made.
Financially Ireland crocked anyway, LEO has fcuked the people up and now with Brexit, the country going to end up paying billions to the EU
