    The sale of condoms was illegal in Ireland until the law was changed in 1985......(unless you were married)........ Contraception was only available to married couples. You had to get a prescription from your local doctor to avail..... Sounds 'mad' now but that was life in Ireland back in the day...I was 23 in 1985... condoms really spoiled all the fun I was having up to then....

    Hi Barney...Flora is the brand name of a butter substitute... As you know butter goes rock hard in a fridge, Flora on the other hand stayed soft in the tub.... The catch phrase in its advertising was...''Flora, easy spread''.....hence, ladies who were ''easily spread'' were known as Floras....

    So I was on the right track then. Still never heard it used in this way before. Some expressions I did hear back in the day I won't repeat here as they are a bit crude..
