Arrow Sex Workers and the Pandemic / Financial Aid

Sex workers and the Pandemic : Financial Aid or Financial Ruin .

Japan is offering sex workers financial aid to survive the pandemic

“CNN) - Mika is worried. As a sex worker in Japan, she used to see three or four clients a day -- then the coronavirus pandemic hit. Now, with people staying home and avoiding close contact, she's out of clients and out of money. ”

“With no savings or other sources of income, Mika says she is living off borrowed money. She has tried to find other jobs, but nobody's hiring in the middle of an economic crisis. At this rate, she might not be able to pay rent or afford basic necessities, let alone pay off the debt she has recently taken on.”

“I'm worried if I will have a place to live or if I can find a job to get money to live," she said, using a pseudonym to protect her privacy. "I worry about (my health) of course, but now I worry more about how to survive."

Should governments in this day and age not recognize and Support sex workers ?

As the 350€ / week national support goes out , should not the Sex Workers also

    be supported ?

After all , we Are essential to many people’s mental emotional health in good times ,

how and why abandon such a vulnerable segment of society in such precarious times ?
I do what I want. I cannot do otherwise.

I really feel for the ladies here at the moment. I know some that declare their earnings and are entitled to the covid 19 payment but most aren't. There is only one answer to this. Legalise and decriminalise the profession, that's a long way off though unfortunately.
We have two lives , the second begins when we realise we only have one .....

Every single person should get financial help from own government. Being caught in a different country during this pandemic time doesn’t mean that government should help you but your own one.

Everyone should be seen to, no one should be left out that really need it

I notice a lot of farmers and other self employed persons not taken the offer of 350 per week as after this is all over the Revenue will go through the books with a fine tooth comb

    I agree 👍 xx

I was just really heartened to read that article in a MSM publication ,

Was really heartened by Japan taking it up ,

but most of all Hat’s Off to Thailand on this matter .

: Once the govt acknowledges and supports sex workers during the crisis ,

there’s no going back After the crisis and sex workers will have to be included

in ‘proper’ society with same rights obligations and benefits as any other citizen .

I prob should’ve worded my post a bit diff / I’m overseas and thankfully don’t need help x

However , Irish Providers should be able to receive the govt pandemic relief without

compromising themselves and without fear of any post-crisis repercussions - as seen

in the current Japanese approach : they’re not quite ‘there’ yet either , but first steps :

being able to ‘claim’ benefits as a Sex Worker . In ROI have to lie and make up stories .

Transparency would benefit all sides imo .

Decriminalization would be the Ultimate answer xx

    Thailand :

: ”That's why it was a huge relief for many to hear that for the first time, they would be eligible for unemployment benefits and assistance grants under the government's pandemic relief package”

“The fact that they have been included in the package shows "an acceptance that the work we do is work," she said. "If sex work can be recognized in a crisis, it has to be recognized outside of a crisis. There's no going back."

*if I’m ill informed on ROI terms , please , I’d be curious to know .

    Edit...
Own Gov should help, unless you are in a foreign country working/paying tax, in such case that Gov should help.

I know a couple of escorts here at the moment, applied for the covid payment and got it. Which is great, but don't know what the consequences afterwards will be, when revenue get involved.

I wouldn't be using Thailand as a model of how to treat sex workers in any sense xx
