Frances ICU is 40% full according to anything I can find.
The WHO states lockdowns should only be used as a short sharp shock when a country is pretty much over run.
I still maintain they are currently causing undue hardship, and possibly doing more harm than good
If the virus is within the border, our own local people are enough to spread it, no foreigners needed..

An example, Hungary. From 1st sept no foreigners are allowed to enter the country.

Number of cases 1st September 6257 and today 22nd October 52.212 No foreign nationals are allowed to enter, residents upon arrival have to self-quarantine for 14 days, or until they produce two negative tests taken two days apart.

And still numbers speak for itself, not keeping distance, gatherings and such, visiting families and friends are enough to spread it within the border. Things are looking lot worse then it was March/April the way i see it

Don't know if this 40% is a fact, but ICU should be fuller than that. But it should be filled with patients from the waiting lists not covid. People are not getting the treatments and surgery they require because capacity is being held in reserve for covid and covid related distancing.

My wife caught me wearing ladies underwear and threatened to leave me.
So I packed up all her clothes
    And left.

ICU is not for people on a waiting list ffs

Its intensive care unit, you don't make an appointment, you just pray it is not where you or your loved ones end up in ICU.

The prime minister said the national hospital bed occupancy rate is now at more than 44% percent and that four regions, including Paris, have more than half of their intensive care unit beds filled by COVID-19 patients, including the Paris region.

Tourists are not flowing into the country as you might think, the airports are empty, was in terminal 1 today, all upper levels closed off, esclators off, only shop opened was boots, hardly anyone around. Why would tourists come here? everywhere is closed, hotels are only open for essential purposes, no restaurants, no bars

How would you build ICU capacity? Where do you find the qualified nurses that it takes 1 year to educate and train a critical care nurse. It requires 12 full time 24/7 staff to monitor an ICU bed. It is not as simple as hiring a nurse and throwing a bed into a space. To answer your question yes we have added capacity, it's not enough of course! We absolutely need more.

But you know if the virus is rampant in society and healthcare workers are catching the virus you end up with a staffing problem.

    Google it.
    That's what I did.
This said it can be difficult getting accurate information.

And yes of course the hospitals should be doing other things, but the fact is Covid is here and probably to stay for quite some time.
    Lockdowns won't work long term

Who saw Prime Time on RTE 1?

According to 4 professors from Ireland and the UK, they put up a very good argument that

    Lockdowns don't work.

What we are doing is nonsense.

There was nobody arguing for current government policy.

They've known about this for a year.
The Irish government should have been recruiting and training since earlier in the year

Instead we get lockdowns, people going on holiday, house parties, over whelmed contact tracers, cock up after cock up

Good points and they prove that
It’s a lengthy and expensive process
To bring our health service up to speed
So that it might be able to handle a surge
    In cases.
Lengthy and expensive, two words our
    Government don’t want to hear
The neglect of the health service has been
Going on for years. This time last year you
Couldn’t move for trollies clogging the halls of
    All our major hospitals
You won’t solve the problem if you make zero
Effort, our government has made little or
No effort for years and now the country grinds to
A halt for the lack of a modern functioning health
    System
Don’t get me wrong here, you can’t fault the staff
The HSE are doing their best but years of neglect will eventually catch up with you
