A guy in northern ireland committed suicide because of this. Basically interacting with "cam" model who recorded him and then threatened to send it to all his friends and family if he did not pay.

As far as I know he was in his late teens. Whoever she was, was friends with him on Facebook also and threatened to release the footage to his friends on Facebook. I think this sting is being widely used online.

May be two different cases :

Guy In NoIre engaging in Cam-session w lassie ;

Teen girl suckered by male classmate .




Same Mo : get footage , and Blackmail .

Hence I Never Skype or else .

Theres bound to be more to that story since there is so much amateur porn on the internet. Probably had depression and that was the last straw

Loss of reputation is powerful. Just look at Caroline Flack. Some people can handle it. It did not effect Ted Bundy one ounce that he was a violent rapist and murderer.

But other people react differently.

If it happened to me i would probably become an alcoholic. would not be able to live with everyone gossiping about me.

Very common now. I have my camera on my laptop covered. Mark Zuckerberg famously does too.

I've recieved several attempts at blackmail to my main phone and email claiming to have filmed me with my own webcam. These threats never bothered me as the only webcam I have is usb and it is religiously unplugged when not in use.
But if I had ever exposed myself on camera, some of these threats might have seriously worried me.

Goes : " hello, i know your password is ': [psswd]. I put a lot of time into recording you masturbating over porn. Unless you wire x000$ I'll forward it to all your contacts. You have 3 days. I know you opened this mail.''

These are the results of data security breaches in companies you have an account with. They have name, username and password to that account. They assume (often rightly so) all your logins have the same password.

You're right in deleting them

I have had a few of these email in the past and just delete them, as they won't and can't do anything.
Even if they did have a video of me, I would be wondering how, as I don't use webcams.

Only the laptop I use for work and the camera is always covered with a piece of red tape.
