You're correct that I did'nt want to be a moderator at the time as I was busy with other things and before the issue of community moderators was ever raised, I along with others would have taken a stance along with bigpaws in favour of free speech. However, over the course of last summer and autumn things got progressively worse here with a lot of personal abuse being thrown around and even member's personal information being posted. So I changed my mind as to the value of community mods, and I think you also moved from being anti-mod or neutral on the subject to favouring their introduction at around the same time.
Following a discussion in the old chatroom it was suggested that I run a poll on who the members would like to have as moderators. The first week was taken up with nominations followed by a vote. Bigpaws then put up a poll as to whether the members wanted community mods or not. On a small turnout, a majority (including myself) voted in favour. So Patricia had some sort of approval from a voting majority to proceed with the introduction of community mods. The poll for mods that I organised failed because nobody who was nominated for it actually wanted to do it. While I said that I was not interested at the time, I fully supported the idea and the mods themselves, including yourself, when they were appointed.
So I never saw the mods as enemy number one. In fact when bigpaws formed his free-speech group, I took a decision not to accept the invitation to join it, because it was obvious to me that it was directed at the mods and against yourself and Qph in particular. I even stated this on a thread when you were threatening one of your departures because of the anti-mod campaign and you agreed with me. So I think the evidence of countless threads plus the recollections of people such as Qph will show that I supported community modding and the individual mods from pretty much the same time that you decided they were necessary.
Had the situation not been getting out of hand during the latter half of last year, I would not have seen the reason or need for it........I don't believe in a police state but I see the need for police. The situation was getting out of hand and more contributors would have been put off posting if something would not have been done. The escorts themselves were already drawing back out of fear of being targetted by the bullies and only trolls and maggots would have ventured out.
Enough said. Sin e.
Good to have you back Westie.
