It's not up to the driver to open a sealed container, that's law enforcement. Speculation about the driver's involvement is guilty until proved innocent.

The authorities know that people will do anything to get into certain countries and to blame the lorry drivers is wrong in most instances. People jumping onto moving lorries, and what about the stowaway that fell from a plane recently, should the pilot be responsible?

It is not a sealed container, this is a refridgerated tractor unit trailer, My friend owns a large haulage company and has lorrys on the continent all the time, their policy for their drivers is to check the trailer container when they pull in for a nap, when they awake its their responsibly to check the trailer. We have other guys with units taking big money to risk taking trailers into this country unlawfully and they dont care what theyre hauling.
The truth is alot of these sail through and there just not enough checks.
This company with links in Eastern Europe and Northern Ireland does seem to be very dodgy

Refrigerated trailers can be sealed and all a driver can do is check that the seals show no signs of tampering.
Generally most drivers of sealed trailers know as much about the contents of the trailer as your postman knows of the contents of your mail.
My wife caught me wearing ladies underwear and threatened to leave me.
So I packed up all her clothes
    And left.

Who reported the bodies in the unit? Possibly it was the driver. It is still possible he was a totally innocent party to this.

its easy to get into a tractor unit trailer even the removing the top pins but alot fail to do checks and we have people on here thinking its not even the drivers responsibility to do simple checks.
yes some drivers even of their own tractor units dont want to know and dont care what theyre hauling as long as the money is good but a good genuine haulier will do the checks and will have his drivers do the checks as one cock-up and it could spell the end and good enough for any who dont do the right thing asd they shouldnt be in business, its just pure greed

You can not interfere with the seal that's the whole purpose of the seal.

To blame drivers for immigrants trying to jump onto trailers and trucks is childish and pathetic.

True, most containers are sealed and drivers aren't allowed to open them.

If the recipient of a container receives one that the seal has been broken, they can refuse delivery
of said container on that basis.

whether this driver knew what was going on is a different matter i suppose

no ones actually fully blaming him,i hope for his sake he didnt know, we dont know the full story but its all needs tightening up, Some hauliers are so strict and do everything by the book while others could not care less as long as the money is good
and how many trailers are properly sealed, not many and this trailer seems to have been doing the rounds we are talking tractor unit trailers here not containers, this was a trailer, very few tractor unit containers will be properly sealed, my haulier does the checks as too many unscrupulous hauliers out there and why did the driver avoid the most direct and straight forward route - port, a port where its got all the latest technology to do the strict and proper checks that could detect whats on boards and save lives, why choose a port thats a haven for smugglers and where checks are not near as strict,

innocent until proven guilty. But either way somebody put those poor people in there and others must have known a lot more than one person involved... this lorry is in the news because it was found out how many more get through and if the proper authorities had not discovered the bodies would we have ever known ...
