An acquaintance of mine is a keen fisherman. He insists fishing is a sport. I vehemently dispute this, who's right ? Is fishing a sport ? To me it's just a hobby

Why would it be ? There's absolutely no physical fitness required and it's not in the Olympics, therefore it's not a sport !!

Fishing of course is a hobby. No skill required in getting the fish onto the hook There is skill involved in darts The social aspect surrounding darts is questionable

There is skill required to be a successful fisherman but I wouldn't consider it a sport, there is a lot of skill needed to be good at darts but like fishing I wouldn't consider it to be a sport.
