Default Irish Election. Poor Sinn Fein.

Sinn Féin not just about winning elections, says Mary Lou McDonald

Mary Lou McDonald said that Sinn Féin was “not simply about winning elections” after the party’s poor showing in the local polls.

Its vote fell sharply at a local level and last night it was also fighting to retain any of its three European seats. In 2014 the party’s vote share was 15.2 per cent in the local elections but has now fallen to 12.2 per cent.

They are big supporters of the anti sex worker laws North and South, although I doubt this impacted greatly on their performance, so no tears shed.

Sinn Fein will jump onto any “progressive” movement if they think it will get them more votes

Would have loved to be a fly on the wall when she explained herself to the army council.

no bearing at all as most people as not bothered about the Sex Workers law, Sinn Fein won't take their seats in Westminiter and could help change things so people are wondering what is the point and are becoming so disillioned with the party overall. Not great showing in Northen Ireland for them at all either.
People are just looking for a better alternate and its showed in the voting with the big upsurge in the the Alliance Vote etc in the North
