St. Johns Wort is available in this country Anita. It is prescription only. I am sure his doctor took all of the anti-depressants into consideration when deciding what one would be most suitable to prescribe.

You and no one else knows Paddy to decide rather or not he needs to be taking anti-depressants. He could be in a slump he can not get out of and needs to get out of it with the help of medication.

As for becomming addicted to them, yes thats a possibility but I am sure his doctor has also taken this into consideration when prescribing.

He should take them if he feels he needs to. It's either be depressed all of the time or go from mood to mood or take anti-depressants, be stable, be able to go about your daily business BUT risk being addicted. Hmmmm I know what I would choose if I was in that situation.

Yes they can (everyone is diff) effect your sex life but weigh up the pros and cons then decide would you be better of without them. You should prob give them a go if your doctor prescribed them and if your not happy and it is ruining your sex life then stop taking them.

Yeah and many other doctors say (usually to the detriment of their career) that noone should ever take anti-depressants, that they are bad for their health and addictive and cause all sorts of horrible problems. Why listen to one doctor over many other ones? It's all a racquet. People have a psychopharmaceutical complex.

You should NEVER trust the doctors, they are NOT there for your good. The doctors are under the control of the pharmaceutical companies for all intents and purposes. These people will pick your very brains out, murder your consciousness and tell you they're helping you, while picking up ludicrous amounts of tax money for it if you let them. Heart and blood pressure medication can be just as bad. They are drug pushers! The people I feel sorry for most are the really naive people and especially the old people. It's sickening what "medicine" has become.

This IS something very serious, that's why I'd encourage the topic creator to do plenty of research into the dangers and drawbacks in taking these things. I don't think there's anyone who should be taking them, they don't even work!!!!

I mentioned I took some anti-depressants back when I was 15/16 (god knows how they can live with themselves prescribing such drugs to people that young)... and I don't mean to sound flippant but it was really the fact that I could NOT, no matter how much I tried... get an orgasm while on them... and that's the main reason I chucked them VERY FAST. Thank god for that.

Some Anti d's can affect your ability to achieve an erection or ejaculation. But you know some are known to cause increased in sexual arousal! I think west and gem make good sense here. You should check out the name of your Anti d's on the net relating to sexual function then talk to your doctor about any worries. Depression when clinical is not just feeling down and most of the time patients need medication to get themselves well. We need serotonin for a general feeling of well being and anti d's just help build a bridge to bring the serotonin to the brain. I hope you feel better soon hun. Take care.

    Love fiona xxxxx
