Posture, clothes, they way they wear the clothes. The clothes are never expensive or fashionable. Normally worn looking because they think it makes them blend better. They are normally talking to each other under their breath so it's easy to spot those faces cos the lips are not moving normally. They will position their head in a way that it's not directly looking at you, but the rapid eye movement as they try to watch you out of the corner of the eyes is a dead giveaway.

If a guard is in his car for long periods parked watching wherever, his clothes become untidy looking from twisting and turning from looking out the different windows and his jacket is not straight, it's easy to spot when he gets out. Might sound like little but it's a big tell. Remember that the guards will be the only unnatural looking people about, everyone else is going on about their day except these two not very well dressed people with blank stares on their faces pretending they are oblivious to you. In the moment it's easy to tell.

And anytime you do anything illegal you are always more aware of your surroundings so spotting something unnatural is easier as you're sense of observation is peaked.

This is not nonsense. In the moment it's easy to see the tells. It's hard to articulate it on a post. Instinct also plays a part, knowing what to look out for.

Process of elimination. Look at everyone to see what they are at, go through them all and if there is cops there you will see them. They stand out. They always look highly alert when everyone else is going on like they don't give a shit.
