The identity of the first victim was announced only a few hours ago, a 71 year old Afghani who fled his country 40 years ago.
That would have been around the time the Americans were funding their own terror campaign in Afghanistan in the form of the Mujahideen who were the precursors to Al-Qaeda.
There's an irony in there that escapes me at the moment.
And its not the obvious one that the OP's accusations of bias are just projection.

I think the media have got the reporting about right. Granted in the original post by sky that joggon posted the use of the term terror attack or terrorist I think it wasn't really mentioned, maybe once, but instead they used "mass shooting". However it was an early report.

I do think in our circles it is natural to see a more muted response, most people in Ireland and I expect on EI are not Muslim so won't see it as an attack on their way of life. While we empathise and condemn it, by comparison to a Muslim attack on the west I think it is natural to see the difference in response. In other circles and other forums that may well be different.

However the political responses I think speak volumes. Compare the NZ PM to the US president.

I think it's clear the difference in the reactions. However let's not forget this is an escort site, and I honestly question the energy we put into posting on these topics given the natural limitations of the internet and forums as a debating mechanism.

For example wolverine and I seem to rub each other up the wrong way on this topic, though I have no doubt he is a good person and I'm sure in a proper back and forth discussion where reading someone's text is not taken up with the wrong tone, we would find we agree on probably the vast majority of things, even this topic.

People are not perfect, it's human nature. I empathise if someone kills a man. I'm troubled if someone kills a man in my neighborhood. I'm inconsolable if someone kills my father, brother. If w all felt the same intensity for every loss everywhere, it would be impossible to get out of bed in the morning.
