I'm sorry, I can't say that with a straight face. It has made FUCK ALL difference which is exactly what that anti crowd and her royal highness, the then justice minster Frances Fitzgerald, were told. The World Health Organisation, Amnesty International and other organisations all spoke out against the law but old Fitzcunt didn't give a damn about them, she didn't give a damn about the sex workers who spoke out against this law, instead listening only to the views of religious bigots.

I'm blue in the face from saying this, but this law was never about helping victims of human trafficking, it was never about helping sex workers in general. All it ever was, was a vendetta against the whole idea of paid sex orchestrated by a bunch of dinosaurs who refuse to come out from living in the Dark Ages.

If you're not part of the solution you're part of the problem, and that is exactly what all of them are because they refuse to differentiate consensual sex work from human trafficking. That distinction has got to be made in order to start actually dealing with the plague that is human trafficking, as well as making it safer for those working as sex workers of their own free will.
You're right, the anti prostitution groups just want to abolish all prostitution period but they do it behind a veil of pretending to care about sex workers. They wanted to reduce clients and therefore reduce escorts. I hate to admit it but I think the new law has (we'll see if it's only temporary) reduced the numbers of escorts. Prior to the new law, Cork usually had around 80 escorts - it never gets near that figure now, sometimes it goes as low as 55. And most counties seems to have suffered a similar reduction. Prior to the new law in the North, Belfast used to have about 54 escorts, today it has 32.

Yup, and I'm glad you mentioned that one word in particular. Because (and I'm blue in the face from saying this), you can throw as many laws as you like at it, but the fact remains that prostitution will always be around. It can never be 100% truly eliminated. Never. Not until such time as our species meets its final end. It is not called the oldest profession for nothing. That is a fact. And based on that fact, legislating for something that can never happen is a waste of time and resources. Time and resources that should be else spent on the protection and safety of those involved in the sex industry, not criminalisation.

Literal translation: E-I isn't run from Ireland. And it's illegal to purchase, not to sell. That was how the anti side were apparently being "nice" to the independents.

There is a good summary of the insane law in this article by Steph Hanlon on how the state has failed sex workers -

    http://www.rebelnews.ie/2018/09/13/i...g-sex-workers/

Paying anyone, including a prostitute with money (or any other consideration) for sexual activity with a prostitute is now criminalised. This is a new offence; it is summary only (non-arrestable); the only penalty is a modest fine, but the amount escalates after the first offence. Sexual activity is defined broadly in this Section.
Note that it also includes an offence of failing to comply with a direction to “move on” (i.e. stop loitering in order to solicit someone), without reasonable excuse, which carries a maximum penalty of 6 months imprisonment.

According to this it is a summary offence, so while if you are suspected of committing it, you may be brought to court and fined, but you will not be arrested!

I suspect that the review of the law may make it even harsher down the line.

Although there was clear man hating support for it, it's primarily about making life hell on earth for sex workers and it has succeeded in doing that, which should be of even greater concern to any civilized person than a punter getting a slap on the wrist or the interference in to the rights of consenting adults engaging with each other in private, although they are obvious bad things too!

Except of course if 2 or more sex workers are operating from the same location!
Can anybody else think of anything that is illegal to buy but legal to sell, it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, especially in a society based on buying and selling in the first instance!
