As you should know, religion has been controlling people for thousands of years and still now tries to control people, especially the Islam, another ugly religion.

I think monotheism has a lot to answer for to be honest.
The notion that one god could ever replace a carefully considered pantheon was a ludicrous one to begin with.
There were reasons for the various gods being the avatars of separated human wants, fears, emotions etc.
The whole Abrahamic one-size-fits-all bullshit is corrupt.
