I listened to someone talking about this subject on Newstalk one evening and it would appear that drivers of older less efficient cars pay a higher premium, that's why younger drivers are totally fucked unless Daddy buys them a new motor





And then there's the road tax too - pay a fortune for feckin cyclists to block the road in front of you

Whether u have a full or a provisional licence makes a difference too.

anyone caught with no insurance should be hammered, if people are not right for the road just stay off it. I pay big insurance , most of us do, its like visiting an escort, you can't afford the price, well then don't visit, if people can't or wont pay Irish insurance then get a taxi or bus but stay off the roads as these freeloaders are a lot responsible for the rest of ours high premiums

that is because they want all the old cars off the road and you to buy new,, its all load of shite anyway

Its that much cause its a '02 car.... never mind the 2 litre engine and non irish driver... and guessing there is no 2nd driver on the policy, that doesnt help at all...

many insurance companies not even insuring cars that age, if you sell an 02 car to someone else some companies are refusing to insurance it while other are bumping the premiums up an extra 200 -400 euro. Plenty people getting caught this way annd having to sell the car on again

Hey Jessy, pm me and I will help you out with the insurance (maybe with getting your car back). I know for a non irish citizen the insurance is sky high, but I never paid that much. I got 1300 euro 6 years ago... now its a bit more as I had a claim. But its still twice less than urs.

Is that because they learn to drive on the wrong side of the road?

The make and model of the car can make a big difference too. If the car is a sports model or is considered a boy racer car, the insurance cost multiplies.

no reason why escorts can't be driving a new car anyway, its not like they can't afford it, look at the hassle it would save and the premiums are quite low compared to an old banger

We all got tricked at the beginning.... Its a matter of who you ask for advice before deciding to buy a car... I been lucky so far and had good Irish friends helping me out till I got to be a trusted driver etc.

Ive been there too, phones calls cut off when they heard Im not Irish or too simply get rid of me they asked for 6k, 8k,12k for the year plus deposit... BS considering that I have a 12yo full licence, no accident history, no points, no fines etc

Oh and being a woman driver doesnt really help that much either lol

a woman driver gets the better deal always, as in everything in life, shop around, try all the brokers and don't bullshit them or it'll come back to bite you on the ass

I've tried lots of companies but just because I'm "young " and with not to many bonus years of driving the qoute my isurance to hight.Axa replayed asking for 11.000 e for the year with a deposit up in front of 3800.crazy.as the car is 02 and 2.0 only shouldn't be that expensive. Car doesn't even worth 1000 e if they take it is not big lost.

Moral of the story is,whatever hassle u have with insurance and prices now
it will be twice as bad if u try to re-insure after being caught without it
