Religion exists and evolved partly as a coping and helping mechanism for others to combat such perceived pointlessness.
Keep right on till the end of the road-which for most creatures means producing offspring.
Which for humans means producing offspring and preferably sticking around till such offspring are capable of producing offspring themselves.
