I have lived a life of regrets.
I'll raise you with Green Fields of France. By far the most sad song I know of. So many young lives lost in such a pointless war. These 2 quotes from the song really hits it home for me (might be even worse if you actually have been there and seen the endless lines of white crosses):
The countless white crosses in mute witness stand
To man's blind indifference to his fellow man
And a whole generation were butchered and damnedhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yK9TDt3Ouo4Well the suffering, the sorrow, the glory, the shame
The killing and dying it was all done in vain
Oh Willy McBride it all happened again
And again, and again, and again, and again

I couldn't agree more. I didn't need the link, I know he song backwards, but thank you..............
Twas the Fureys and Davey Arthur version I knew best thanks to a copy on vinyl my Dad had. A sad song indeed..........
Not to big to admit this song reverberated in my head when I visited Ypers in Belgium, a place where may a young Irish man died, and are buried, under an unknown or assumed name in a foolish young quest for adventure, died in the fear of being shunned for joining under another flag, and stood in the Menin Gate Memorial to hear the last post with a lump in my throat.......
