Having read the rest of the replies i hesitate to stir up a hornets nest but you have asked a question, so i will reply.
I posted this because in my capacity as a community support worker who provides HIV and HCV tests and also support and information about sexual health to the general population, i noticed that people believe lots of myths. Personally i think this is because the majority of sexual health education has happened in playgrounds and on the streets as people are growing up, so in essence we are repeating things that our great grand parents were told, as if it were still true, even though we now have more knowledge about most STI's.

Partly that is our fault as health workers for not providing the information in ways that make sense.

I agree with you that many people do know this information. In fact this forum is the most informed place i have ever worked.

I also know that not everyone posts or engages in conversation, people use google a little too much and many people have never had access to this type of information in a way they feel they can understand.

Recently, i have experienced a rise in the amount of people who think that only penetration is an STI risk. I wanted to make sure that those people who are choosing to enjoy the other types of sexual pleasure are doing so with all the information they need.

It is not my job to judge or advise anyone on how they 'should' have sex. We work from a human rights perspective and therefore we celebrate people having the sex that makes them feel good. Sexual pleasure is a key part of sexual health. We also try to ensure that they can do this with all the information they need to calculate the risks they are willing to take.

Hopefully that clears up some of the concerns you might have had behind my reasoning for posting the thread.
