I organise finance for people. I see what they earn
I find the pay of those in health care is better than the average industrial wage starting out, which isn't as much as I would have expected given their qualifications.
Those in the system and working here a few years are paid well. Much more than i would expect.
Yes there is stress. Probably long hours..
But they are not paid badly, like a lot of sectors of society they just think they are.
This said Luas drivers are overpaid. It's a job any idiot could do and should be paid accordingly.
But then I also believe there's no incentive in this country to work. A couple of children and you'll get the equivalent of 50k and more on the dole, between rent allowance and everything else.

I would not begrudge anybody a good day's pay.

It's not begrudging a fair days pay, it's not fair on those who don't.
Example
Luas driver. Training 4 hours. After 10 years 50k
Mechanic: training 4 years. After 10 years 35k

Unemployed foreign national . 3 children. Adding up everything and using payroll software this person gets the equivalent of 60k
Doctor 3 children working here 1 year. 65k

Fair comment about medical pay but regarding hours, I doubt they really work more than the average 40 hours a week , just bad rostering with 2 or 3 , 13 hour shifts ;
