It's always appropriate to bring a gift however small, in some cultures it's expected and as an island we seem to be oblivious to this.
Things you should bring without saying are
A respectful manner
Discretion
Honesty and the understanding that the person you are spending time with has thoughts and emotions just like you
Besides that you should bring
Because of the nature of the interactions you should always be as fresh and groomed as possible, have no issue if asked to freshen up and pay attention while you do so
Ask if they would like you to pick something up for them as it may be difficult for them to do so
Otherwise something nice to brighten their day and don't be offended if they don't like it, just remember it shortens the list for you to choose from what they do like
