Rapid Hep C Testing in Limerick

I don't know if any of you are around Limerick next week but i just wanted to let you all know that we are piloting a new thing.

On Tuesday 11th October from 11am - 1pm we will be providing Rapid Hep C Tests in Dempsey's Pharmacy, 47 Parnell Street, Limerick.

You may not know that there is a cure for Hep C. A simple tablet that is taken once a day for 12 weeks, and it does not cause many side effects.

There are estimated to be thousands of people living in Ireland who do not know they are living with Hep C. We are providing a 15 minute, finger prick, instant result, test for free. This is a drop in service.

People can live for 30 years or more without knowing they are living with Hep C so if you, or anyone you know, could ever have been at risk from Hep C, please think about using this service.

Risk factors include:
• Having tattoos
• Receiving medical treatment abroad
• Snorting coke
• Blood transfusions before blood screening was introduced
• Being in prison at any point in their life
• Sharing injecting equipment
• Being a sexual partner of anyone who may have been at risk

Testing will also be available during European HIV and Hepatitis Testing Week (17th – 25th November).

You are absolutely correct. It was on Tuesday (10th) as i put in the poster...not on Wednesday (11th) as i wrote in the post.
It went well.
Rapid HCV testing is always available Monday - Thursday in our offices if you wanted to come and couldn't make it because i messed up the info.

Sharing needles to inject drugs.
And some amount of, likely unprotected, homosexual sex may add to it.
And prisoners will very possibly mostly come from deprived communites which may have sligjtly higher hep c levels to begin with. Then you confine them all in close proximity.
