this has been proved in other countries and yet thats not what they campaigned for
They want it all banned and the only possible reason for that stance is it offends their religious morals

The reason it was banned is because most politicians are only interested in getting re elected. Only about 65% of those eligible to vote actually vote but 100% of people who go to mass every week vote. All TD's do a lot of canvassing at church gates.

    Hence,in an indirect way
Religious fervour is the primary reason

I work for a charity. The vast amount of our funding goes on salaries. This pays for me to do my job and i work really hard, as do all the staff here.
We are not allowed to use our money for anything else. When we put in pour application to the HSE every year, they provide us with 100% of our asking price for current positions and refuse to fund new positions, then they provide some (but not all of rent, electric, etc).

We have to find the rest to stay open.

There is not a cent left to run programs etc, so we have to figure out how to do our jobs without it costing anymore (hence my presence on here).

I'm just saying that, for us, the money is where it's supposed to be, because it is supposed to be paying us to do our jobs.

Nobody is denying that there isn't a criminal element involved in a certain % of the sex industry & that some girls are trafficked, however, it is not to the extent claimed by Ruhama. When Dr Susan Huschke undertook a research paper before the introduction of the law in North, less than 1% of the escorts who partook in the research, came to Ireland not knowing that they were coming to work in the sex industry. The majority of escorts, are working of their own free will. As abhorrent as some of the general public might find this or struggle to accept this, no one forced us to work as escorts. We choose to work as escorts. This is our chosen line of employment. We are not all drug dependent, vulnerable individuals who need rescuing, many escorts are well balanced, educated women. The problem is that there is a certain factor of society who disregard the opinions of sex workers & don't want to listen to both sides of this argument, this was very evident in the run up to the introduction of this law, this sector of the public are brain washed by the unsubstantiated claims bandied about by Ruhama. Research opposing the law & findings/concerns put forward by SWAI & other organisations supporting sex workers, was dismissed & side lined during the discussions before the introduction of the new law.

Wise words but if ruhama admitted that, they wouldn't receive the funding that they need to pay their salaries and expenses.
My wife caught me wearing ladies underwear and threatened to leave me.
So I packed up all her clothes
    And left.

Ruhama says prostitution is a multi-million euro criminal enterprise run by organised gangs
Ruhama says prostitution is a multi-million euro criminal enterprise run by organised gangs
Organised prostitution run by criminal gangs remains a major problem in Ireland according to Ruhama, a frontline service working with victims of the crime.

The service has said that of the 92 victims of sex trafficking it worked with last year, 26 were new victims trafficked into the country, mainly by west African, eastern European and Asian criminal gangs.

The organisation is calling on gardaí to prosecute those who use the services of people in prostitution, and for the Government to make people aware that this has been an offence since new legislation was introduced last March.

Prostitution in Ireland is no longer street based but still operates in the shadows, in apartments and homes via the internet.

However, Ruhama says it remains a multi-million euro criminal enterprise run by organised crime.

The victims were trafficked mainly from Nigeria, Brazil and Romania and forced into prostitution by criminal gangs.

The organisation says Chinese criminal gangs also traffic and force people into prostitution, usually using massage parlours as fronts for their operations.

Ruhama CEO Sarah Benson said: "Unscrupulous individuals make money from human misery - moving often vulnerable migrant women in a coordinated fashion from brothel to brothel across Ireland, with a view to satisfying local sex buyers' demands."

The organisation has called on gardaí to implement the legislation and prosecute sex buyers.

It is not aware of any case taken since this was made an offence last March and it says the prosecution of clients would act as a deterrent and damage the criminals' business.

Speaking on the News At One, Ms Benson said it is important that Gardaí enforce the law which criminalises people who purchase sex.

She said they are complex crimes that require resources.

She called on the government to resource the Gardaí to ensure organised prostitution and trafficking are dealt with.

She said: "The government needs to ensure that the correct resources are given to Gardaí to resource the new national protective services bureau and the regional bureaus that are being developed because they have the mandate to deal with organised prostitution and trafficking.

"These are complex crimes that require resources," she added.

So much for the Bill criminalizing clients working
If they hadn't made the law so wide ranging the Gardai might have some chance.
Lets just say that allowing for multiple profiles ect, that there are actually 500 sexworkers, seeing 4 clients each, each day. Thats 1000 mostly consenting sex acts to be detected and prosecuted by the gardai each day.
From my limited experience in court rooms, I guess the average number of cases that can be handled by a single judge at 200 cases a day, if most cases are uncontested, meaning that Gardai would need the facilities and staffing of 5 court rooms, operating 7 days a week and a ridiculous number of Gardai to prosecute an unjust law.
It's time to scrap this law and allow Gardai the time and resources to prosecute hardened criminals. The priests and nuns can thump their bibles at the rest of us.

The criminals have not gone away, too much money to be made here and with the weak sterling its not going to get better, these gangs from Russia, Romanian and China to name but a few have adapted more to suit the situation and are one step ahead of the police forces.
E-I could do more too in cleaning things up but money talks the loudest
