No one can deny that there are some people trafficked in the sex industry but making it a crime to pay for sex will do nothing to stop this. It would be much easier to deal with it if prostitution was legalised then the authorities could check tax status and working permits for those involved.
Trafficking is not confined to the sex industry there have been a number of convictions both in the UK and Ireland where people were kept as modern day slaves. Unfortunately there will always be some exploitation of the weaker in society all we can do is report our suspicions to the Gardai.
Because this is ireland. We have a long history of being bullied by the church and their zealot followers.
Do you really think these people would let prostitution become legal?
They campaigned for this bill, not to have prostitution legalized

This is not the Ireland of today. We have a Taoiseach that is gay a President who is an atheist and according to the last census less than 60% of the population are practising Catholic. Yes this is a country that was ruled for decades by the church but not anymore. The first country in the world to vote for same sex marriage. If you want to see a region ruled by bigots Northern Ireland is a perfect example thankfully the republic is nothing like that.

Prosecuting sex buyers is not going to have any effect wats so ever on organised crime it's just media attention
And in realition to rhuhama they are an off shoot of the Catholic Church if you dig in to their funding and supporters you would be quite surprised and a lot of their statements are dubious

    Hi guys,

Here are links to Rhuama's income for 2013/14/15

It seems after working it out, the vast majority of Ruhama's income goes on staff salaries.
    It is around 68%.
    Where does the rest go?

codswallop here as religion got nothing at all to do with it.
It was a campaign to make out that the majority of escorts in Ireland were forced into it and prostitution in Ireland is frowned upon anyway and most those that don't visit escorts would support the bill and there was little or no opposition to it

While you make good points,i have never felt we are a million miles away from "old ireland"
i still feel the spectre of the church hanging over the irish, where sex is considered sinful and
    something to be ashamed of
They still even have a hand in our education system even after all that happened there
    which i find gobsmacking!

And have you never considered the prevailing reasons why its frowned upon in general?
Because we were raised in a religion that frowns on anything sexual

its frowned upon because of closed minds and paying for sex is just repulsive to those that don't do it. I don't believe we can blame religion now

And why are those minds closed?
Legalizing would get rid of most of the problems associated with prostitution
this has been proved in other countries and yet thats not what they campaigned for
They want it all banned and the only possible reason for that stance is it offends their religious morals
