The only way to save yourself from a knife attack is with an improvised shield ie: Jacket , towel, dressing gown, etc
I once got attacked down a laneway in Amsterdam and the speed and ferocity of the attack still haunts me to this day, I was lucky enough to some how get my jacket off and wrap it around one arm, the jacket was shredded literally I have some scars where a few cuts got through but I lived.

You dont need years of combat experience, all running does is get you stabbed in the back. The attack should last no more than 20-30 seconds before you get a chance to deflect, distract or run but you NEED a shield of some sort to survive. My number on choice would be a leather Jacket.

Ok guys I feel this next guy gives an accurate description and demonstration of how a knife attack may happen this is very similar to what happened me, quick, ferocious, unpredictable, aggressive.

Barry, your heart is in the right place but the only advice any one should give against a knife is to run, or gtfo. Ferocious damage can be caused by one slash.

If an attacker is close enough to stab you get something between you (table, chair etc). If you must attack, grab their wrist, and stick your fingers in their eyeballs/bite them somewhere, run your nails down their face, and then run. By physically marking them you make it a bit easier for the police to identify them. But my main message is run.

Perhaps girls should get their hands on mace?
