It is the most expensive EU state for tobacco and alcohol at 1.75 times EU average.
It is third highest for items like cars and motorcycles at 1.1 times EU average.
It is fourth highest for hotel and restaurant prices and fifth highest for food and non-alcoholic drinks.
However Ireland and the EU remain cheaper than non-EU countries like Switzerland, Norway and Iceland.
Denmark is currently the most expensive EU country.
Bulgaria and Romania are the cheapest but with obviously much lower incomes than other parts of the EU.
Some of the cost in Ireland, will of course be due to being a peripheral island, with a small population, on the edge of Europe, with at least 60 miles of sea to get here, and with consequent high government taxes to fund the place.

Ireland, costwise, tends to keep company with Switzerland and the Nordic countries.

Based on my experience traveling around Europe (and the world) not everything in that report is accurate. However, I agree that some stuff is shockingly expensive and often lacks quality, too. The price of hotels, for an example, (or even an Air BnB) is quite high considering what you get. Often the standard leaves a lot to be desired. I stayed in an upmarket hotel with an escort recently and the shower facilities were horrendous. I digress. Rental prices are excessive, too, but sure we all know that already.

Oh, and to any knob-ends moaning about the price of escorts in Ireland. I completely disagree. Based on my experience, Ireland represents very good value for money. One thing punters can be happy for. :-)
