Had to evacuate a hotel long time ago, full on fire, its not possible in words to get across the assault on sense , zero visibility, breathing being assaulted by smoke toxic fumes, heat, flames, eyes streaming people screaming , staff pancaking and you got minutes to nail it down or else. Do not know how so many got out TBH I was watching it live at 4 am.

If that building were an aircraft it would be grounded until what went on was understood. It seems there are many buildings that have had this cladding, inquiry my arse, convene cobra and go to all buildings that have received this cladding. If this were a tower block in Chelsea harbour I somehow feel it would be more urgent, but I am not exactly a fan of May so perhaps that a biased view. Silver lining the way all[people all colours all religions have pulled together . I hope someone here is checking on this cladding.

Lilly Allen just stated on C4 news that its more like 150 dead including many children , not confirmed although John Snow (not GOT guy) said he had heard the same, she was saying that the figures are being suppressed by government and no Tory councillor/MP to be seen , none available!!! They better get this dealt with pronto and with real compassion /ownership and responsibility or another form of fire will start

Fireproof cladding that would have prevented Grenfell Tower tragedy 'would have cost just £5,000 extra' - and the cheap version that WAS used is BANNED in America

Hundreds of aluminium Reynobond panels were installed on Grenfell Tower
Three panel types - one with flammable plastic core and two are fire-resistant
Grenfell contractors reportedly chose the cheaper version with the plastic core
Panel with the plastic core is £22 sq m - £2 cheaper than fire-resistant version

Contractors that worked on the £8.6 million Grenfell Tower refurbishment could have spent just £5,000 more on fireproof cladding, it has been revealed.

Hundreds of Reynobond aluminium coated panels - which are banned in the US over fire safety fears - were fitted to the outside of the London high-rise last year.
The death toll continues to rise following the deadly blaze which ripped through the tower on Wednesday morning with 17 people already confirmed dead and senior figures warning up to 100 could have perished.
A criminal inquiry has now been launched amid impassioned calls from grieving family members for those responsible for the inferno to be brought to justice.
The building was reportedly covered in panels with a plastic core costing £22 per square metre - but contractors could have used fire-resistant ones selling for just £24 per square metre.

Grenfell Tower, which was built in 1974, before the refurbishment (left) in 2011 and with the new cladding (right before the blaze)

A salesman for US-based Reynobond told The Times that the version used on Grenfell, which has a polythene centre and is referred to as 'PE', was banned in American buildings taller than 40ft over fire safety reasons.
'It's because of the fire and smoke spread,' he said. 'The FR (variant) is fire-resistant. The PE is just plastic.'

I was surprised at the way deaths were being reported , one usually hears it phrased in terms of estimates or so many unaccounted for, giving a sense of the tragedy, it was noticeably missing till after C4 last night, now its around 100. The fact that this stuff outlawed in USA will cause righteous outrage, the theory that the look of the block more of a priority to improve the look of the area over safety , thats a challenge. At least they have now started a process of inspecting all buildings on emergency basis looks like the lights have gone on in Downing Street at last.

It still seems that the emergency assistance is all locals/voluntary no government activity yet thats astonishing if its accurate in one of the richest areas in the world.

That other form of fire as mentioned above is simmering these remote politicians better get on it today or else, it will only take one spark me thinks now. Emotionally inept combined with arrogance added to a tragedy like this thats v combustible stuff.

Not very nice scene yesterday in protest March about justices as Theresa May been heckled and shout upon.....
But can't blame them as they on want justice and answers to what cause the fire in first place....
As she had to bow into the demand and release 5 million for people who lost everything fund...
As damn right people should be angry as love one gone and friends as well as their home and all valuables belonging....
Damn MP as they go around knocking and banging your door for votes but yet disappear when a crisis arises....
I certainly would want to be a MP as I be locking my door and checking security camera...
As well as wide awake looking up in the dark ceiling as tick tock a time bomb going to go off as protest march could get more violent if answer are not found soon...
Lastly respect to Queen and Prince William as both made a effort and I no fan of Queen but respect her effort to come out and see the people who lost everything and family....
Ohh death toll higher then they saying as government suppressing number on what they truly are as that part anger too as truth not been told...
R.I.P TO ALL VICTIM OF THAT TRULY TRAGEDY FIRE

is this a metaphorical representation of the times we live in?
superficial cosmetic changes, everything rotten inside?

I read this in the papers, it's disgusting, putting so many lives at risk for a saving of such a meager amount. Taking into account the saving of £5,000 installing the cheaper panels, divided by the rough estimate of how many people actually lived in the tower, that means they valued the safety of each resident & the cost of each live at £10 or less. Shameful!

The fact that this fire was so intense that it melted kitchen appliances, no wonder the emergency have to admit that they may find no remains of some of the residents.

It was a multi million refurbishment, would £5,000 really have broke the bank, bearing in mind that Kensington & Chelsea are a wealthy council.

I foresee many civil cases of involuntary manslaughter being brought against the council & possibly the contractors, Rydon.
