Yes, it is illegal there(apart from regulated brothels in 8 rural counties in Nevada) and it is now illegal in both Irish jurisdictions. There may be a little exemption here for an escort, alone, indoors(but not the client. This single escort exemption does not apply in the US, yet despite its illegality, there are sex workers, escorts etc across the USA.
IN Britain, what continues is the same and similar to what was in Ireland prior to 1/6/2015.

In the US, "prostitution" is regulated on a state by state basis and not at Federal level. It is illegal for both sides to the transaction, streetwalking and pimps are illegal across the States, yet will probably be found in most areas in one form or another.
Prohibition of prostitution and prohibition on drugs have been about as successful as their alcohol prohibition of 1919/1933.
Interestingly, according to Wikipedia, Louisiana is the only state that may require convicted prostitutes to register as sex offenders-especially if they offered oral or anal services, but then, it is the deep South.
Also some places in the US operate "John" schools for those found purchasing sex.
    Another interesting fact on there,
the highest death rate at work in the US occurs among fishery workers(similar worldwide, followed by mining, agriculture, construction etc).
A survey mentioned on Wickpedia quotes a death rate among sex workers as three times higher than that for the relatively dangerous occupation of fishermen.
The US has a large stripe of conservatism and both Protestant /Catholic moralism, from previous centuries in its public and ruling faces-a bit similar to Ireland in many ways.
And finally, in the years running up to the "new law" here, people were quoting the" Swedish Model" till they were blue in the face, and others were listening to the Swedish model till they were blue in the ears.
Yes, we should pay attention to what goes on in Europe and the rest of the world, but our true cultural milieu is the English speaking world and we should be paying especial attention to how places like Britain, Australia, New Zealand conduct their affairs in sex work and other matters.
WTF are you quoting the USA for I am talking about IRELAND and the UK ( and I know there are 4 parts) it is against the law to pay for sex, except in legal brothel!! What about the Garda sting in Limerick a few years back, did those guys get charged, and if apartment is raided and you are there you may be charged as well. Depending on situation. Paying for sex as defined by law makes no difference whether it is on street or in penthouse, you ever hear of guys getting stopped in the red light area of Dublin for " kerb crawling"?? and as I said I really don't want to prolong this post so if you want to teach me some law PM me, oh and if you ever go to court for anything I would hope you do not take your legal advice from Wikipedia It is also illegal in Sydney apart from a few licenced brothels.
" Thankful for those thankful for the things I did "

Do not bother with the Wikipedia sneer, which I expected, often coming from people that know little about anything anyway. For years, kerb crawling and approaching sex workers on the street and importuning them has been illegal. The Limerick thing you mention was where a policewoman was dressed and placed at a usual street location(at a time when there were a lot of' foreign'street girls-now all long gone) and the men who approached and 'solicited' her were indeed charged and prosecuted, old news, old hat. It is not illegal for an independent escort in England, Scotland or Wales at present, to offer sexual services for sale, that do not cause harm to the individual or for a client to purchase such.
Also to spell it out to you, I was illustrating the similarities of the law now in Ireland and the US-when compared to the situation in other English speaking countries like Britain, Australia and especially N. Zealand.
Furthermore fyi, England and Wales share the same legal system, Scotland has its own legal system as does N. I. - this is the U. K. you keep going on about.

Because there are a lot of frantic, highly strung people here, who like the sound of their own voices but know little or nothing about anything at the end of the day.
