    Default Why don't...

Why don't politicians consult academics when drafting laws.

Hopefully when article 20 is up for review this work can be put to good use.

Because it don’t work like that.
Laws are often about pandering to voter’s prejudices not addressing genuine problems.

Or politicians own prejudices. I think most polls were against criminalisation.

Dr. Susan Huscke did a research paper, which included interviews with a lot of clients & escorts alike, to oppose Lord Morrow's law. Out of all the escorts she interviewed, less than 1% of the escorts said that they had been brought into Ireland under 'false pretences'. All her work & research, fell on deaf ears. To take into consideration the views & research of educated professionals would mean, that, those making & passing laws, admitting that they had not looked at the wider picture or sought an unbiased opinion of the sex industry.

In memory of an awesome woman Laura Lee RIP
It's so difficult to articulate just how much she meant. Inspirational, brave and irreplaceable - our hero.
Please do what you can for her daughter. Deeply appreciated.

If I remember correctly her research was commissioned by the DOJ but Morrow et al ignored it because it didn't suit their agenda. And that, I suppose, answers my own question.
