I've been caught out many times trying to struggle into average condoms, and it's never pleasant. Not to mention it's less safe, as normal sized condoms on a larger guy increases the risk of breakage.

Occassionally I've brought my own, but women seem uninclined to want to use them.

I always make sure I have condoms in different sizes for both of these reasons. It looks very difficult and very uncomfortable for a guy to try to get on a condom that's too small, I wouldn't want a punter to try to squeeze on one that's isn't the right size, ouch! And like you said it's less safe, not just if the condom is too small but also if it's too big as well, it's more likely to slip off move around. There's not much point in trying to be safe and making sure you always use a condom if it's the wrong size comes off in the middle of sex!
