See the reality is they are entitled to it
So even if the government did what you suggest, the EU would fine them and force them to pay the money anyway, not too mention the damage you would do to Irelands reputation by even trying to take something away from people who paid their contributions and are entitled to the social welfare.
The long term damage of doing what you suggest would destroy the country for years if we ever recovered, our standing amongst our fellow EU member states would fall through the floor.
but look how the gov got a referendum passed by saying lets have another one because we dont like the rsults of the first one.The gov could do something.Im not saying to put them all on a canoe and let them off Mizen head.Im saying that they need to have stricter controls of immigration and welfare to them.
Sooner or later every country has to get strict on immigration. They have done it in the US,Austrailia, two of the more popular immigrant areas and far richer areas than us,although Austrailia is pretty much a continent.
We have to have more control as we cannot afford not to.How we do it is another thing.
Westside.
As I've come to expect from you, none of this is even vaguely correct. The US remains more open to immigration than Ireland. I know, having dealt with immigration authorities in both countries. I think Australia is also still more liberal, despite the nuttiness of its previous (Howard) government, but I don't have personal experience there. As for the US and Australia being ``far richer'' the latest IMF figures for per capita GDP are
Ireland 64,660
Australia 50,150
US 47,025
so they are considerably poorer. Could I suggest that you stop posting about things you clearly know nothing about?

There are controls
What you don't seem to grasp is that those getting the dole meet the requirements they are not jumping off planes and heading straight to Social Welfare to sign on.
As for tighter restrictions the current estimates are that there will be net migration from this country this year.
I dont give shit about it

GDP is only one of the means of economic health although the broadest one.So are you saying that if US picked up,we picked up that we would be richer than the US?And you say i speak nonsense? The key words in your statement " the latest IMF figures for per capita GDP are" which as far as im aware are measured by the quarter. Also these figures dont "neccessarily" give a true indication of a countries overall wealth. In fact its more of a measure of temporary performance than wealth although a person could argue that they are one and the same. Also in any event real GDP takes inflation into account and inflation rates differ also and that also includes different quarters within the same economy although it can remain fairly static.
If i have 1 billion and you have two billion but i earned 100,000 more than you in the last quarter who is richer? You are but who performance is richer?Mine. So are GDP meaures and overall wealth the same? Not neccessarly.
Also imports are subtracted from total GDP because consumer purchases of imports are not counted in GDP and the US has a current account deficit importing (this is when a countrys total imports is greater than the countrys total exports.) more than is exported. So obviously those figures above do not give a true view of a countries wealth but more of a countries economic performance which arent the same thing.GDP are often prone to revisions which can also change previosly figures and since its a % and change of 1% is enourmous.
Your confusing wealth and economic performance and say i speak nonsense?By the way,i know very little ,only the basics of economics and never considered myself an economic wizard. You might be if you didnt rely on google so much.
Sincerely,
Westside.
