I once bought a book for a homeless guy, but when I got back with it he vanished. I hope that means he got himself sorted out. I still have it in my car just in case he ever comes back, but that was 11 months ago now.

I've stopped to make sure people are okay when they have been on the floor in the street as well, when no one else would speak to them, as they were worried they were on drugs or drunk and waited until an ambulance came and got them. There was me and this old lady looking after him.

I can't walk by if I think someone is in trouble or needs help, but that is so different, because helping them in that way is just a moment of time and can't leave me homeless or my Mum with a broken heart.

I find that the people who appreciate help most are the least likely to ask for it, and if you offer without asking it's usually refused. Everybody gets one chance with me but if they start taking the proverbial mile I usually tell them where to go and why. Helping others makes me feel better about myself but I usually confine myself to random acts of kindness these days.

I helped many people but in most of cases my help was ,not even not appreciated but when i was in a position to need their help too (and i,m not talk about financial help) they sent me to hotel to sleep as they did not had a place in the apartment i found for them, to sleep one night only (one example). The last time i helped a lady offering a place to stay in my place after her landlord put her out and its turned she tried to put me out from my place talking nasty about me to my landlady and to me just because the situation changed and she couldn't stay longer with me. So what i try to say i love to help , make me to feel good with myself but many people don't deserve and not appreciate the help unfortunately.
And to answer to your question, yes i will still help if i can and with what i can if someone need my help .

Reading this thread I think most people try and help others , but it's probably the unhelpful people we remember most

I have helped many people over time in many different ways and find that generally it's a thankless sacrifice. It is usually the person you least expect who will ap[appreciate your efforts the most.

Every situation is different — I'd like to think that by helping others in their time of need that someone would help me in my time of need. I don't help because I want a reward — I help because I can — but it is always nice when my help, whether it be big or small is recognised in some way. Unfortuanitly this does not happen very often and when I have needed help I have not found much willing assistance coming my way. That is life I suppose.
