    Default Fidel Castro dies.

Former Cuban leader Fidel Castro has died according to state TV. He seized power in 1959 from the American backed Batista government. After President Eisenhower refused to meet him when he visited the US he became allies with the Soviet Union. This led to the bay of pigs, the Cuban missle crisis and years of blockade by the Americans. He was seen as a revolutionary hero by many, loved by many Cubans and equally dispised by many Cubans. Like him or loathe him he certainly was one of the major political figures of the 20th century. A remarkable man.

    To have power that long
He must have done something right

He must have done a lot right and had some luck too, to even survive, given the determination of the CIA to kill him.

Poor Fidel, finally reached the end of his cigar, from 90 miles off the coast of Florida he gave the Americans the 2 fingers. Sleep well brother.

    Yes, he did that.

But the regime he overthrew was much worse than he ever was.

As I said in the opening post he was loved by many Cubans and equally loathed by many. There will be many mourning and many celebrating. Whether you agree with his policies or disagree with them it's hard not to admire the man for remaining in power for so long despite all the US & CIA attempts to topple him. That's my opinion anyway IDF but I know that he was a decisive figure and even in death he still is.

Again! How many times is that?

In before the photographic proof that he is still around.
