sorry for your troubles LL and I completely empathise with the level of emotion and anger here (thankfully we've never had to deal with anything like this in Ireland, in my lifetime).

I was devastated for all fair-minded Americans when the final result came though (was up all night watching - was in a heap in work the next day). It gave me the same cold feeling I got the day of the brexit referendum result.

I still am devastated, so much so that I started to try and see what slivers of hope or positivity there are in all of this. It's almost zero. One thing that's good is the way the millenials voted. They were overwhelmingly non-trump. That bodes well for 4 years time (if he hasn't destroyed the world by then). That generation will hopefully restore sanity.

For anyone who is a non-white, straight, male person, I am terrified. And others have to galvanize, and mobilize, to make sure they exhaust every bit of fight they have in them to ensure their rights. I think they will, and I've been heartened by the reaction of those protesting since the election result.
