Irish Minister claims ‘there’s nothing wrong’ with lonely men paying for hookers. By JOHN DRENNAN. 20:42, 25 Oct 2016 [copyright The Irish Sun)

A FINE Gael minister has caused outrage by claiming there is nothing wrong with lonely men finding affection in the arms of a prostitute.

The politician told Hot Press magazine there is a case for legalising prostitution.

And he dismissed Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald’s plans to criminalise hookers and clients as something that “doesn’t work”.

In the interview, due out tomorrow and in which the minister will be named, he says: “I’ve looked into it. I don’t see it as a solution. I know it doesn’t work.

“We don’t have the resources to police the women and certainly don’t have resources to police the much larger number of men. I think there is potentially no harm in it. There is a need for it in society, but how we get there I just don’t know.”

The minister expresses concerns though about trafficking and the sex trade. He says: ‘‘The reality of the sex trade, there is so much trafficking involved, the abuse of women is disgusting.”

Asked about a set of hypothetical scenarios involving those with special needs or lonely farmers, the minister notes ‘‘in that hypothetical situation where you are talking about a lonely chap who wants to go out and spend his money to have a physical relationship because he’s got a need, there’s nothing wrong with that’’.

But furious Fine Gael sources warned against their colleague’s position. One said: ‘‘This is daft self-indulgent stuff, it is the last thing we need.”

At least he's had the balls to stand up to the establishment & tell them some home truths. This law does not work & there's not the resources to fund it. If the government really wanted to tackle trafficking within the sex industry, all they have to do, is make every sex worker purchase a licence to work in Ireland. This would send the traffickers packing & leave the genuine independents able to work.
