Tiote spent six seasons playing in the Premier League for Newcastle before leaving to join Chinese League One side Beijing Enterprises Group FC at the beginning of the 2016/17 campaign

Tioté collapsed during a training session with the Chinese League One side Beijing Enterprises. He was subsequently rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Cheick Tiote's agent Emanuele Palladino confirmed the death of his client and asked that the privacy of the player’s family was respected at this time.

The Ivorian moved from Newcastle to play for the Chinese side in February 2017. He had previously spent six seasons in the Premier League with Newcastle, playing for the club over 150 times.


Tioté represented his country 52 times and played at both the 2010 and 2014 Fifa World Cups. He began his career in Belgium with Anderlecht before moving to FC Twente in 2008.
His former Newcastle team-mate Demba Ba was one of the first to offer his condolences.
