We all seem to like to pull the racism card at each other.

I have been fighting the stereotypes against me most of the adult life.

I think it's a waste of time deliberating was it because of racism, stereotypes or bad previous experience. If I'm politely explained that an appointment won't take place, without misleading and wasting my time, I really don't mind. Sometimes it's better to tell about your country of origin straight away without waiting to be asked about it. It's a matter of approach, I think.
