would continue to bring wine because just from a social encounter perspective that's what we are used to doing. Maybe this is more of an American thing but if you are visiting someone for an extended amount of time (or coming for a social event) bringing a bottle of wine is kind of standard. I like the strawberries idea in addition to that though. But then again, this is another example of a gift that can be "shared".
Is this conversation overthinking it now? Is opening a bottle of wine, sharing strawberries or chocolates a faux pas? Or is it the though that counts, that you went out of your way to bring something nice?
