The man thought long and hard about how each of the women spent the money.

By this do you mean his wife would have forgiven him for seeing escorts but not for having an affair? That's interesting. I'm far from an expert but I think my partner would have viewed them both equally.

If you listen to women talk the general consensus seems to be that it is easier to forgive a transaction that didn't involve emotion a lot more than a relationship, as relationships tend to involve a lot more than just sex. If what is said is true and not just bravado it would be fair to conclude that the majority of women would find it easier to forgive their partner seeing a sex worker yes. I'm guessing this is due to there not being sex or irregular sex for some reason within the relationship, so they take on part of the blame, or it could be that it is less of a betrayal than giving your heart to someone else?
