I tried watching it last night.
I couldn't get my head around it and gave up after 20 minutes.

Maybe I was too drunk or not drunk enough

I'd give it a go, you need good speakers and I'd try have subtitles on otherwise it's hard to make out the dialogue at certain pivotal points. But the cinemetography and soundtrack is excellent, I'd watch it for that alone.
