A FEMALE garda has been accused of working as an escort in her spare time.
The Irish Sun can reveal that a probe has been launched at a Dublin station after cops received a tip-off the officer was allegedly advertising her services on a seedy website.
Gardai are investigating how the woman’s images appeared on the internet site and if her profile was used without her knowledge. The site has since been shut down.

Cops are also investigating if the officer turned to prostitution to help pay the bills. A source said: “The woman has plenty of experience and is highly regarded by her colleagues. No one knew anything about this until it all came out.
“Everyone in the Gardai is talking about it and can’t believe this has happened. But nothing is proven.”
Cops are probing whether the officer had only started working as an escort in the last two months.
If it is found that she was moonlighting as a hooker, the woman faces the sack.
A source said: “She hasn’t committed any criminal offence but could be disciplined on the issue of standards if it’s proven she was working in the sex industry.” And a Garda Representative Association source also confirmed they are aware of the shocking claims.
A source added: “It’s very early days in relation to this and nothing is proven until the investigation has been concluded.
“Gardai have taken their own lives because of the dire financial situation they found themselves in and this case would be very sad for everyone concerned.”
The development will come as a shock to Garda bosses after their ‘We Don’t Buy It’ anti-human trafficking campaign launched last year.
Its aim was to raise awareness among men of women being exploited in the sex business. The force’s anti-prostitution probe ‘Operation Quest’ is still ongoing and has led to a number of gangs being smashed across the country.
The GRA has previously spoken about the financial woes experienced by gardai since pay cuts and levies were imposed on members in austerity budgets.
At their national conference, GRA chief Dermot O’Brien said many members were having difficulties in paying bills and supporting themselves and their families.
And he called on the new Government to “prioritise the issues that gardai are facing on a daily basis”.
