Thankfully these incidents have become very rare this century.

It's the second prison officer since I've been here. The first one was killed on the M1 when he was driving home from work and he was just about to retire. They seem to have a thing for prison officers.

It doesn't tend to be random so I wouldn't worry too much. You would have to be very unfortunate to get caught up in anything and they tend to notify the PSNI of their intentions, as they want them to know what they are doing, so they clear areas that are suspected to be dangerous and get the general public out of the way.

Apparently they are planning more over the Easter holidays, so play safe, but don't let it stop you, as the likelihood of anything happening where you might be going (for fun) is highly unlikely.
