Imagine the outcry if he raped a number of girls, which could have been avoided if the police had applied for this order to be enforced but didn't.

It is only a precautionary measure and I imagine that the magistrate in question found that there was sufficient evidence for it to be applied.

Can you imagine being in his shoes if he is actually innocent?
He is guilty without his day or representation in court.
    This isn't right.

We all know there is guilty people walking the streets because their lawyers got them off on a technicality which is wrong.
I don,t care if police harass scumbags like them , they have no right in society
Unbelievable, he's a scumbag and guilty before any trial.
I understand you point, but bloody hell. I'd hate to be an innocent man accused of something if you ran the country.
Don't ever join the Gardai, I think we already have enough of them with this attitude.

As of now, in the Republic of Ireland, An Garda Siochana, GSOC, the Defence Forces and the Revenue Commissioners can access mobile phone records, without judicial oversight.

The early part of this thread became a case of trial by tittle-tattle. Despite most posters being hazy, about the actual details of the case, they display an all too common tendency to adopt an attitude of '' guilty until proven innocent ''.
The court of public opinion is a useful to justice, as asking the audience in '' Wh wants to be a Millionaire '' a difficult question, and expecting any clear direction.
The court of public opinion, leads one to the slippery slope of kangaroo courts, vigilantism and lynch mobs;and to a downward spiral of gut feelings and prejudice.
Indeed, the very meaning of prejudice, is prejudging, before fully knowing the facts,
Allowing police to arbitrarily impose significant legal sanctions without proper oversight, is also something that could be antipathetical to a free and fair civil society.
The term '' habeus corpus'', refers to the right to speedily be brought to trial, convict or set free-not to be left to languish under a pall of misgivings and suspicion.
Unrestrained, unmonitored, police action can lead to miscarriages of justice, like the Birmingham Six and the Guildford Four, of the past.
There was s a reason for the coining of the term, '' Police State''.
