He was probably lukewarm about representing Ireland anyway, leaning towards the Gb team or expressing a preference for a possible NI team if such were to exist.
Graeme McDowell also will not be going to Rio, as his wife is expecting a baby when the Olympics will be on.

Shalom/salaam.
10,000 years of Middle Eastern civilisation and the place is not at peace but rather in pieces.
Nobody wants to go.
Free trip to Rio for someone here.

I am a bit vague on detail but I kind of remember someone once saying that McIlroy was Catholic but not from a strongly nationalist area originally.
There is also a Northern Irish identity developing among some younger. Catholics or an acceptance that remaining with Britain is their best bet at the moment. Probably more true outside of the more entrenched and maybe poorer city areas.
Possibly got his head turned by all the team GB talk of the London Olympics too.

golf and babes… can't wait to get to Ireland!
What I cant figure about this Zika virus controversy is why only the golfers are expressing fears about travelling to Brazil. What about the track and field athletes, swimmers, boxers, tennis players etc who will be there? I have not read a word from any other sportspeople about this or do the golfers think they are somehow more at risk?
