I have been saying it for a few years now. Overnight and weekend moderation is required. At one point I actually offered to do it. Not so sure I'd be an acceptable candidate but thats not the point now. Sometimes shite is posted at a weekend night and it can still be up on the following Monday morning. This should be a place to interact not to be abused.
Not saying is the management's fault for people's behaviour but has to be stopped and dealt with by the mods.

In my view the management of the site, who facilitate us all, including the ones who stur up trouble, have an obligation to police it.
In the same way that a radio station is responsible for what contributors to programmes say.

A directory does not need a forum in order for it to exist and do well. However if the directory chooses to have a forum in order to promote the directory (there is no other reason to have one), then it should invest time and money into making sure that forum is ran well and the people using it have an element of protection that allows us as close to assured anonymity as possible.
When I first joined here there was a very small window of time when there was not a mod around to check what people are writing and it is all very well telling us to 'report and not respond', but when you are faced with possibly 24 hours + before anyone is around to react to that report, then you are left very vulnerable and lives can literally be ruined in that time with how fast news travels on the internet. I would say it is a basic duty of care.

Having seen explosions on here over the last couple of years I have often wondered why normal moderation ends at 6pm. There is often a lot of traffic between 6 and midnight. After that things usually quieten down a bit.
I have suggested in the past that rather than having up to 3 mods on during the daytime if they staggered their shifts then the forums could have better moderation coverage!
It is a sad fact that better moderation coverage is required! But I don't think anyone could have foreseen what kicked off last night and unless we had 24/7 moderation what happened last night could have surfaced at some point!

As I said to Sophie this morning what went on last night was vile abuse and bullying and caused by a few people and has no place any where Rachel you and Sophie both seem very strong but what about the other vulnerable people on site.We are all supposed to be grown up here why not just act like it.I am sure there were some normal people on here last night.
